Bay Area Students Prepare to Pitch Products to HSN

Florence Chen, SV SCORE Program Director and founder of Propeller, an online platform for career transition

One of the most entrepreneurial focused colleges in Northern California, West Valley College has partnered with Silicon Valley SCORE and The Home Shopping Network (HSN) to sponsor SCORE YOUR DREAM in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This initiative is to identify entrepreneurs who want to sell their products on the new HSN program “American Dreams” and reach a higher level of success. This is a great opportunity for students who are working on designing consumer products and want to improve their elevator pitch skills, refine their product idea, as well as receive mentorship from SCORE counselors. Participants will be pitching to HSN executives at the new Entrepreneurial Center of Excellence at West Valley College.

The free information session was hosted on September 15, 2018 at West Valley College. Florence Chen, SV SCORE Program Director, led the session and shared tips for the Pitch day on November 15, 2018. The event was well attended and featured guest speakers from Google and IDEO. Participants learned about using Google to market businesses and design thinking.

The format of the pitch is as follows: 5-minute elevator pitch (3 minutes pitch and 2 minutes for feedback), no slides, samples or pictures of product, and partners are welcome.

Deadline to apply to pitch is October 14, 2018. Register here: www.scoreyourdream.org

The selected entrepreneur (winner pitch) will be able to sell to 96 million households in America and to a global online market. Order fulfillment might be funded by HSN or the entrepreneur will have better purchasing power with their manufacturer because of HSN involvement.

Way to go West Valley College!
